Amaris Mitchell is a dynamic leader at LISC NJ, specializing in coaching resident leaders, in pursuit of building their voice and power in community development. In her role as a Community Capacity Building Program Officer, Amaris has played a pivotal role in regranting funding dollars toward grassroots projects, leaders and anchor institutions in Newark, empowering local initiatives and resident-led models to be maintained and sustained. In her commitment to community-driven change, Amaris has brokered relationships between resident leaders across the city, facilitating their involvement in LISC NJ’s Local Advisory Committee (LAC) and ensuring their voices are heard and valued. She is dedicated to strengthening resident leadership through training programs like LISC NJ’s Newark Resident Leadership Academy (NRLA), empowering over 35 new leaders annually, the participatory grant program in partnership with Victoria Foundation, Neighbors Helping Neighborhoods (NHN), and organizing an annual resident leadership conference, Growing Leaders Building Communities (GLBC) attended by leaders throughout the state of NJ.
