New Jersey State of Affordable Rental Housing

AboutResources

About NJSOARH

The New Jersey State of Affordable Housing (NJSOARH) project seeks to understand the state of rental housing affordable to low-income and especially very low-income households in New Jersey and the processes that shape housing insecurity. Though the availability of affordable, stable, high-quality housing is widely recognized as a critical challenge, we have an incomplete view of the existing landscape of rental housing affordable to lower income households, the lived experience of low-income renters, and the complex and often interwoven processes that shape housing insecurity in NJ.

Guided by an Advisory Committee of stakeholders and practitioners along with community research partners, the team is gathering, organizing, and mapping information about rental housing affordable to lower-income households and conducting interviews and focus groups with people who know affordable rental housing and the challenges lower income households face in accessing, living in, and retaining it. The team will share the work through reports, briefs, tools, trainings, and webinars developed with and targeted to a variety of stakeholder groups.
