Andrea Restropo-Mieth discussed her research on Radio Encantada, a local radio talk show in the Galapagos, with Lia Enriquez from the University of Pennsylvania and local coordinator, Wilson Castillo. Dr. Restrepo-Mieth was invited to talk about involving people in climate change adaptation planning through community science. The project is led by GERA (Galapagos Education and Research Alliance) and community partners with permission from provincial and local governments.
Dr. Restrepo-Mieth also led two community events where a table was set up in the “malecón” with some maps (including urban heat maps) to share findings related to perceptions of heat in the town. The project asked people what they want to see the public spaces in different neighborhoods, which areas they believe could benefit from greater tree cover (hint: most of the town), etc.
