Three RWV Center student researchers won awards this past month. Congratulations to Soo, Bernice and Zehra!

At the American Association of Geographers (AAG) Annual Meeting (March 24-29, 2025) PhD Candidate Soo Yeon Lim presented a chapter from her dissertation work, Housing Production from Ground-Up: Binilhaus in Greenbelt Land and Contested Urban Expansion in Gwacheon, South Korea. The paper explores the lived experiences of flower farmers and their modes of housing production in the urban peripheries of a small city within the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA). The paper won the Graduate Student Paper Award from the Urban Geography Specialty Group (UGSG) in AAG. Soo will be invited to submit a revised version to Urban Geography.

Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellow Zehra Mahdi submitted the winning photo to the Association of American Geographer’s Landscape Photography Competition.

Voorhees Fellow Bernice Amankwah received the 2025 Jewel Plummer Cobb Senior Recognition Award for Outstanding African American Douglass College Senior. This award honors a Black senior who best demonstrates academic achievement and extra-curricular involvement and who is a positive role model for other Black students.
